About Us

Our approach is grounded in clarity, consistency, and calm leadership.
Dogs thrive when expectations are clear and guidance is steady. We focus on building structured communication between owner and dog—creating trust through repetition, boundaries, and follow-through.
Behavior Plus was founded in 2008, built on firsthand experience rather than theory.
In 2006, the Pugliese family found a stray pitbull searching for food. At the animal hospital, they were given two options: take him home or euthanize him.
They chose to take him home.
That dog, Louie, became the beginning of everything.
What followed were months of research, professional classes, and more than 300 hours of hands-on work. Through structure, patience, and consistency, progress began to take shape.
That experience formed the foundation of Behavior Plus.
What started as a commitment to one dog became a professional training practice focused on helping owners build clarity, confidence, and reliable behavior in their homes.
Today
Behavior Plus remains family-owned and operated, serving clients throughout Northern New Jersey.

A Team Developed From Within
With more than 50,000 hours of hands-on experience, Behavior Plus has worked with dogs across a wide range of behavioral challenges—including reactivity, fear-based behaviors, impulse control issues, and complex aggression cases.
That depth of experience informs how we approach every dog, whether the goal is foundational obedience or structured behavior modification.
Our team has grown over the years through mentorship and internal development. Several of our trainers began as clients, experienced meaningful progress with their own dogs, and chose to pursue professional training under our guidance. They now operate within the same structured standards and expectations that define Behavior Plus.
Each trainer brings thousands of hours of practical experience working with puppies, adolescents, and adult dogs. Our approach remains consistent: clear communication, steady leadership, and practical application in real-world environments.
We do not rely on trends or shortcuts. We rely on structure, repetition, and accountability.
If you're looking for calm, direct guidance and a structured plan, we’re prepared to work with you.

Our Trainers
Dedication. Experience. Perspective.
Every trainer at Behavior Plus began as a client.
Each has experienced the process firsthand—committing to structure, consistency, and follow-through before stepping into a professional role. That perspective shapes how we guide clients today: with clarity, patience, and practical expectations.
We understand the work involved because we’ve lived it.
